Metas Adventist Hospital, NABH Accredited

"Yes, Metas Adventist Hospital, Surat is now officially a NABH accredited hospital in Surat city", declares Dr. Srikakolli Eliah, President & CEO of Metas Group of Institutions.

It was a mail from Mr. Bindu Madhav Yenigalla, Assistant Director, NABH with the herald of the grant of accreditation under hospital accreditation program for the services recommended by his assessment team.

The odyssey of this achievement started in the year 2008, with an attempt to learn what NABH is all about. When the notion of NABH was young in the country, Metas Adventist Hospital was already laying the blueprint towards its achievement. Many had a question, “Why pursue NABH for a ‘Mission’ hospital”?

  • Accreditation benefits all stake holders. Patients are the biggest beneficiary. Accreditation results in high quality of care and patient safety. The patients get services by credential medical staff. Rights of patients are respected and protected. Patient satisfaction is regularly evaluated.
  • The staff in an accredited health care organization are satisfied lot as it provides for continuous learning, good working environment, leadership and above all ownership of clinical processes.
  • Accreditation to a health care organization stimulates continuous improvement. It enables the organization in demonstrating commitment to quality care. It raises community confidence in the services provided by the health care organization. It also provides opportunity to healthcare unit to benchmark with the best.
  • Finally, accreditation provides an objective system of empanelment by insurance and other third parties. Accreditation provides access to reliable and certified information on facilities, infrastructure and level of care.

Every department in the hospital underwent vigorous training of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documentations required to be followed. Chapter champions exceled in their field of expertise. Though not assessed by the board, the system that the hospital adapted was NABH driven and approved practices. Every new staff that joined the hospital was exposed to the SOPs and made it their work culture.

A confident Quality Team under the supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar Ch, Vice President Hospital Affairs, once again placed the topic of NABH back on the table. The President was briefed about the assessment process and for the third time, the application was placed, this time for Metas Adventist Hospital, Surat alone.

The NABH Assessment team was invited on the 7th & 8th of December 2015. The hospital was ready and prepped for exhibiting its quality of care and SOPs that are practiced in the facility. A 3-member team arrived only to be impressed by the way the hospital had transformed its approach towards being a healthcare provider. The assessment team members scrutinized every facility, observed the practices of the nurses, and interviewed randomly the employees on their SOPs. The assessors were pretty impressed by the response they got. Their exit report revealed that we were 86.5% compliant to their standards and advised us to close the gaps before the final assessment was done.

Once again, the hospital fraternity got back to work on the gaps and mailed the assessors the closure of the gaps. The dates of the final assessment were assigned and intimated. In 3 months, the ‘Final Exam’ was to be conducted.

On May 2nd, 2016 a special team was sent for the Final Assessment. This time it meant serious business. There was no room for error or excuse. The assessors took their own time to assess their expertise, and keenly observed every tiny action and the rationale for them. Though thoroughly prepared, the atmosphere of strict discipline and inspection got everyone worried. The 2 days spent was judiciously used by the jury of the assessment team.

During the exit report, the primary assessor smiled and said that she enjoyed her experience in assessing our facility. There was something different about the whole ambience, the aura and atmosphere in the facility. It did reflect that it was a Christian hospital. She felt it. The compassion of the nurses, the cordial behaviour of the customer care, the confidence in the consultants and the serenity of the facility was evident. A few gaps were pointed out, which were to be closed within a month’s time. By June 16th, 2016 all the gaps identified were closed and a final report was sent to the assessors.

As of today, Metas Adventist Hospital, Surat is the first NABH accredited hospital in Southern Asia Division of the Seventh Day Adventist organization.

"Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance."

Praise God for His tender mercy and grace for giving us the strength to move on till the goal was reached.

School Graduation

The Metas Adventist School observed the School Graduation Day

It was a jubilant Sunday evening on April 5, 2015 when all outgoing students of Std. XII celebrated the completion of their twelve year long schooling along with their parents at the Metas Auditorium. Dr. P.D. Porey, the Director, SVNIT, was the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he emphasised the importance of knowledge in making knowledge society a reality. Several events made the programme colourful and memorable. The touching moments were the honouring of students by none other than Dr. Srikakolli Eliah, Principal of the School and President of the Metas. Every student pledged to stand by their avowed goal of being doctor, engineer, lawyer, chartered accountant, management expert, etc. A few students, of course, pledged to be the good human being. Nobody, however, pledged to be the politicians as such.

A few students have been especially remembered for their 100 per cent attendance in the existing academic session.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Anilkumar Ch. This was followed by a grand banquet comprising of students, parents, and the staff.
